Okay, so, I’ve been brewing my own beer for a while now, and I gotta say, moving all that hot liquid around can be a real pain. I used to do it all by hand, you know, lifting and pouring, but man, that gets old fast. Plus, it’s kinda risky, what with the potential for spills and burns. So, I started looking into pumps, but those diaphragm ones? Forget about it. They’re not built for hot stuff, or so I heard. It was suggested to me that I should look into magnetic drive pumps, they said it is like the 809. I also heard that these diaphragm pumps are not a good choice. I am not sure, but that’s what I heard.

Then, I saw a bunch of those Chinese brew pumps online, looked kinda interesting. They were, like, 65 to 75 bucks, which isn’t too bad. Stainless steel, 110v, the whole nine yards. But, you know, sometimes cheap can mean trouble. Still, I figured it was worth a shot. In addition, someone was saying to me that boiling temperature rated mag drive centrifugal pumps are very popular for commercial brewing and we can easily find them from various suppliers.
I ended up grabbing one of those MP-15RM magnetic pumps. It’s got a stainless steel head, food-grade, which is important, right? You don’t want any funky stuff leaching into your beer. I found some good customer feedback about this pump, they are saying it is a good pump for home brewing.
- First thing I did was unbox it. It is well packaged, and looked pretty solid. I was a little bit concerned because I had never used one before, but it seemed straightforward enough.
- Next, I hooked it up to my brewing setup. I had to get some extra tubing and clamps, but that was no big deal. Just a quick trip to the hardware store.
- Then came the moment of truth. I fired up my kettle, got the mash going, and then switched on the pump. Man, what a difference! It moved that hot wort around like nobody’s business. No more lifting, no more spilling, just smooth, easy transfer.
- After that, I used it to recirculate during the mash, and then again to transfer to my fermenter. It worked like a charm. Cleaning was pretty easy, too. Just ran some hot water and cleaner through it, and it was good to go.
Honestly, I don’t know why I didn’t get one of these things sooner. It’s made my brew day so much easier and more enjoyable. If you’re still messing around with manual transfers, do yourself a favor and check out a magnetic pump. There are so many brands and models out there, I’m sure you could find what you are looking for. But, I could say that this one works like a charm, and it didn’t break the bank. Cheers!
